Message from Business Manager Bud Thoman

I am sure by now that all of you have heard that we lost 2 IBEW Brothers on Monday. Local 94 Journeyman Lineman Derrick Paris, and Justin McLoughlin, Local 1249 Second Step Apprentice,  lost their lives when the guy wire they were working on made contact with a 69KV Transmission Line. They were working for EJ Electric in the town of Chester NY, and the work was being done on Orange & Rockland property.

Derrick is a 25 year member of Local 94 who was working as Lineman traveling to other construction locals. He has worked with construction locals for the past 5 years. Before that, Derrick worked for PSE&G for 25 years.

Local 94 sends out its deepest condolences to the families of our fallen Brothers. We stand with them and will answer the call in any way we can. I'm asking all job sites to start taking a collection for the two families if you haven't done so already.

Please be safe out there. No job task is simple or routine and we all need to communicate and come up with a plan and execute it and if a situation arises out of scope, stop and reevaluate the job at hand. Nothing, I mean nothing, is more important than everyone going home safely at the end of the day.

Always use proper PPE and never cut corners!
